The most illustrious antiques show in the country starts its ten-day run on Friday, January 23 at the Park Avenue Armory. The 61st Annual Winter Antiques Show features the cream of the crop from 73 exhibitors who specialize in Americana, English, European, and Asian fine and decorative arts, as well as parties, “expert eye” lectures, and book signings. A highlight of Americana Week, the show attracts curators, collectors, dealers, design professionals, and first-time buyers eager to view and own these priceless items, all of which have undergone strict vetting by professionals.
The show kicks off the day before with an Opening Night Party that is as prestigious as the exhibition itself. Expect to pay anywhere from $300 to $2500 to share cocktails and hors d’oeuvres with throngs of philanthropists, socialites, and collectors. The other high-profile evening is the Young Collectors Night, which gathers emerging collectors and philanthropists for a private viewing of the exhibits and an exclusive “Meet the Designers” reception.
Daily admission for the show is more reasonably priced at $25 per ticket, and comes with a 270-page catalogue. Among the highlights of the exhibits are museum quality paintings by American masters William Merritt Chase, John Singer Sargent, and Childe Hassam; sculptures from the Egyptian age to the twentieth century; a gilded Herter Brothers “Pompeian” side chair once owned by John Pierpoint Morgan; and ancient East Asian art and artifacts. Proceeds from the show's general admission and events will go to the East Side House Settlement, a social service institution in the South Bronx.
The Winter Antiques Show will run from January 23-February 1, 2015, at the Park Avenue Armory, located on 67th Street and Park Avenue, New York City. The Winter Antiques Show hours are 12 p.m.-8 p.m. daily except Sundays and Thursday, 12 p.m.-6 p.m. Daily admission to the Show is $25, which includes the Show’s award-winning catalogue.
