TRADING UP: UBS Lands Sheridan; Crane to HSBC

Peter Sheridan, the former head of U.S. algorithmic trading, sales and coverage, has just been brought in by UBS to head up its electronic trading distribution team in the Americas. Sheridan worked at Goldman Sachs for over 12 and a half years, having joined from Morgan Stanley in 2005. Sheridan’s departure is the latest high profile move in electronic and algorithmic trading over the past few weeks. Bill Hillegrass, a managing director at Barclays in New York has just joined Bank of America as head of electronic client solutions (ECS) trading for the Americas. Meanwhile, Asita Anche, another Goldman Sachs managing director within its quantitative and algorithmic trading team, moved across to Barclays as its new head of systematic market making, risk centralization and data science.

Robert Krane, HSBC

Robert Crane, formerly of KCG Holdings and Goldman Sachs, has joined HSBC as global head of cash execution. A spokeswoman said Crane will have a "dedicated focus to transform and enhance the electronic platforms at HSBC". Crane left KCG in July, when US market-maker Virtu Financial completed its $1.4bn takeover of the firm and made a series of cuts. Prior to joining KCG in 2015, Crane had been co-head of European electronic trading at Goldman Sachs.

The Investment Company Institute landed Sean Collins. Collins currently serves as senior director of industry and financial analysis, leading ICI’s research on the structure of the mutual fund industry and its role in financial markets. Since joining ICI in 2000, Collins has been responsible for conducting and overseeing research on the flows, assets, and fees of mutual funds, exchange-traded funds, and other funds in the United States and globally, and has contributed significantly to ICI’s research agenda in the post-financial crisis era. Before joining ICI, Collins was a staff economist at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors and at the Reserve Bank of New Zealand. He has a PhD in economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a BA in economics from Claremont McKenna College.

Robert Simon, Barclay

Robert Simon has joined Barclays’ New York office as a managing director in prime brokerage sales. The executive has spent the past thirteen years at Citi, most recently as managing director of equity platform sales. From 2013-2015 he was based in Hong Kong as Citi’s head of Delta 1 sales for the Asia Pacific region.
JPMorgan hired Glenn Kujawski, one of Goldman’s most senior traders of international equities in NYC. According to FINRA registry, Kujawski left Goldman in August. He joined Goldman in 2005 after working for Deutsche Bank and ABN AMRO Securities. He was made managing director at the firm in 2009. We understand that Kujawski ran Goldman’s Canadian and Latin American equities trading business in New York.

XTX Markets said it has named Niki Beattie a Non-Executive Director and Chairman, effective 1st October. After a career in investment banking, Ms. Beattie founded Market Structure Partners which is an independent strategic consultancy specialising in capital markets structure where she has worked on many projects with some of the world’s leading trading venues, hedge funds, asset managers and government institutions.

Richard Bateson, Macquarie’s Global Head of Portfolio Trading, left the company this past August after seven years. Macquarie’s global head of portfolio trading, Richard Bateson, left the firm in August, The TRADE understands. He first joined Macquarie’s London office in 2010 to head up portfolio trading, coming from Numis Securities where he worked as a trader for two years.

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited announced that John Killian has been appointed the Group Chief Financial Officer to succeed Paul Kennedy, effective 13 December 2017. Killian, aged 49, has over 25 years of experience in the financial services industry. Prior to joining HKEX, he worked for Goldman Sachs in Hong Kong for seven years, and his most recent role was the Controller of Asia Pacific.

Elizabeth Flisser Rosman has joined Cowen’s Investment Management team as a Managing Director and Head of Strategy. Prior to joining Cowen, Rosman was a Partner and Managing Director at Reservoir Capital Group, a privately held investment company. She is based in Cowen’s New York City corporate headquarters and joins the firm with expertise in alternative investment strategies.

BNP Paribas said it had created posts to run prime brokerage sales and prime trading globally. Matthew Clark, a former global head of client executives in Citigroup's sales team who has also worked in Goldman Sachs’ prime brokerage team for 20 years, has joined in London to run sales. The bank has also promoted equity derivatives trader Jerome Bassot to global head of prime trading. Both will report to Raphaël Masgnaux and Arne Groes, global co-heads of prime solutions, and to Nicolas Marque, global head of equity derivatives.

Societe Generale Corporate & Investment Banking (SG CIB) has parted ways with Marc El-Asmar, the long-serving head of sales for its global markets business. His plans are not known. El-Asmar reported to Frank Drouet, head of global markets. Drouet is understood to be covering El-Asmar’s role on an interim basis, while the bank looks for a replacement. El-Asmar left the bank at the end of June. His departure has not previously been reported.
