State Street Global Advisors, the asset management business of State Street Corp., made two new hires. First, Noel Archard was named head of global SPDR product. Second, Seth Morrison has been named head of global SPDR marketing. Both will be based in Boston.
In a newly created role, Archard will be responsible for product strategy, innovation, range and lifecycle management for the global SPDR ETF business. Archard brings a wealth of knowledge with more than 20 years’ experience in the global asset management industry. Most recently, he was country head of BlackRock in Canada tasked with growing the company across all business lines within this market. Prior to this, Archard held ETF positions at Blackrock and Vanguard. He will report in to Cyrus Taraporevala, head of the global institutional group.
Also in a newly created role, Morrison will be responsible for all marketing activities across the SPDR business in North America, EMEA and APAC. Morrison joins SSGA from Vanguard where he served as head of Flagship Business Development Group, the high net-worth sales group for their US Retail business. Prior to this, Seth was head of Vanguard’s International Marketing team. Previously, Seth spent more than 10 years at Franklin Templeton where he held multiple global executive roles in marketing and product distribution. He will report in to Nick Good, co-head of the global SPDR business, and Stephen Tisdalle, chief marketing officer of SSGA.
Cowen Group announced that Bernard Minsky has joined its international prime services team as director and head of risk management. Prior to joining Cowen, Minsky founded Certior Advisors, a consulting firm providing risk management services to the investment community. Before that, he was the chief risk officer and chief operating officer of Callisto Asset Management.

Thompson, with more than 25 years’ experience as a global brand strategist, comes aboard as a Director. accomplished researcher, writer and speaker. Anne was formerly executive director of strategy and planning and the head of consulting at Interbrand. Prior to this, Anne spent several years in the banking sector in strategic planning and research and began her career at Grey Advertising.
Bania, a veteran with more than 15 years in the field, is a branding, licensing and IP damages expert. He has managed hundreds of projects related to brands, intellectual property and the related intangible assets. He has assisted clients in intellectual property matters related to acquisitions, litigation, bankruptcy, tax, estate and licensing.
Buss, is a Chartered Financial Analyst with over 20 years of experience in valuations, financial analysis and corporate finance both in the US and overseas. He will provides strategic advice regarding intellectual property portfolios and transactions. Buss has worked for Westpac Institutional Bank, and Deloitte & Touche’s Financial Advisory Services group in New Zealand and San Francisco.
Berenberg grabbed star fund manager Matthias Born as its new Chief Investment Officer Equities and Peter Kraus to manage the small and mid cap team at Berenberg Wealth and Asset Management from Allianz Global Investors. Both are gardening leave until October 1.
Visible Alpha announced two senior sales and relationship management hires to support the company’s expanding client base. The firm hired Mark McNerney as its Head of Sales, EMEA with responsibility for expanding and servicing the growing client base in the region. Previously, he spent three years at Fitch Solutions where he was Global Head of Strategic Partnerships and eight years at the investment research house, BCA Research, where he led the EMEA institutional sales team. Also joining is Janet Stemberger as the firm’s new Head of Relationship Management and Client Development. Her previous experience includes six years at S&P Global and twelve years at Thomson Reuters in senior sales and global key account management roles.
On the flip side, Société Générale has seen a number of departures from its US prime services team including its head of prime brokerage and clearing for the Americas Alain Courbebaisse, according to reports. Courbebaisse left the Paris-headquartered bank in April. He had joined SocGen following the bank’s acquisition of derivatives brokerage firm Newedge in 2014 and was in the position for two years. Graham Smith, head of prime hedge fund sales in the US, is also reported to have departed for personal reasons in March.
Broadridge Financial Solutions has hired Eric Bernstein as President of Broadridge Investment Management Solutions. In this role, Bernstein will be responsible for driving global business growth in investment management solutions, leading day to day and strategic execution of client and market-focused solutions. Previously, Bernstein spent 17 years in financial technology, leading divisions at Linedata, Sophis and most recently, at eFront.
Pryor Cashman has hired Anthony Schouten for the firm's Investment Management Group. Schouten maintains an integrated corporate practice with a focus on structured finance and derivatives. He came from the law firm of Winston & Strawn LLP, where he was a partner.
In media reports, New York Stock Exchange vice president of strategic analysis and market data and former administrator of the CTA, Peggy Sullivan, has left the company after 20 years at the exchange.
XTX Markets named Eric Swanson as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the Americas. In his new role as the CEO – Americas, Swanson will be based out of the group’s New York office, beginning his tenure on June 1, 2017. He comes from Bats Global Markets, where he most recently served as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. Swanson also worked at Ameriprise Financial Services and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
The OCC announced the appointment of Mark Morrison, formerly with State Street Corporation and several government defense and security agencies, as Senior Vice President and Chief Security Officer, a new position. At State Street Corporation, Morrison served from 2013 to the present as Senior Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer. Prior to this, he served as Principal Director to the Deputy Chief Information Officer, Cyber Security and Deputy Chief Information Officer for the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). Morrison will report to John Fennell, Executive Vice President and Chief Risk Officer.
