TRADING UP: ITG, BTIG Add Staff; CS Loses Equities Chief

ITG hired Tom Cesare as a Director on its U.S. Electronic sales team in New York. Cesare, a 20-year industry veteran, served most recently at JP Morgan as Executive Director on the Prime Services sales team. At JP Morgan, Cesare also held electronic sales roles within the Execution Services division across Equities, Futures and Options. Prior to JPMorgan, he held a number of positions in electronic sales, trading and operations at firms including FTEN, HSBC Securities and Credit Suisse Group.

BTIG announced that Sung Ji Nam has joined the firm’s Equity Research team as a Director. Based in BTIG’s New York office, she will provide coverage of the life science and diagnostic tools sector. Nam has more than ten years of experience conducting life science and diagnostic tools equity research. Prior to joining BTIG, she was a Senior Analyst at Avondale Partners. She held similar roles at Cantor Fitzgerald and Gleacher & Company. Nam began her equity research career at JP Morgan, covering life science tools, diagnostics, small to mid-cap medical technology, and pharmaceutical services companies.

In Europe, BTIG Limited, the European affiliate of BTIG, expanded its Outsource Trading capabilities with the appointment of Balraj “Raj” Briah. He joins as a Managing Director and Head of European Outsource Trading in London. Prior to BTIG, he was a Senior Equities Trader within the Outsource Sales and Trading Group at CF Global. Previously, Briah was Head of Middle Markets Sales Trading at Citigroup. He held similar roles within the Equity, Cash and Portfolio Trading Groups at Nomura and The Bank of New York. Briah began his career on the buy side as a Global Equity Trader at Deephaven Capital and M&G Investments.

Roger Anderson, Drexel Hamilton

Credit Suisse has parted ways with its global head of equities, Mike Paliotta. At Credit Suisse, he was a Managing Director of Credit Suisse in the Investment Banking division, based in New York. He also served as the firm’s Global Head of Prime Services. Prior, Paliotta served as Co-Head of Equities Americas. He joined Credit Suisse in November 2000 when the Bank merged with Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, where he was a Director in the Institutional Equities group. Prior to that, he was a Managing Director at Neuberger Berman and had also worked at Spears, Benzak, Salomon and Farrell.

Drexel Hamilton has landed Roger Anderson as Senior Vice President of Municipal Finance. Anderson is a finance leader with demonstrated success in private, nonprofit and governmental sectors. Most notably, he served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Federal Finance at the United States Treasury Department, where he designed and implemented Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities (TIPS). Most recently, Anderson served as Chief Operating Officer at Centenary University in New Jersey. Additionally, Anderson held positions as Executive Vice President for Elmrock Capital, Inc and Deputy Comptroller for Finance for the New York City Comptroller’s Office.

Berenberg has snagged Bernd Meyer as Chief Strategist for Wealth and Asset Management group as of October 1. Berenberg, with over 25 years of experience, left Commerzbank where he was a strategist and will also to become Head of Multi Asset. As Chief Strategist, Meyer will determine Berenberg’s capital market opinion, develop multi-asset solutions and head up multi-asset portfolio management including asset management activities. Meyer started his career in 1998 at Deutsche Bank.

Mark Van Der Weide, Federal Reserve

The Federal Reserve has announced the appointment of Mark Van Der Weide as its general counsel, replacing Scott Alvarez, who will retire this summer. Van Der Weide is currently deputy director of the Fed's supervision and regulation department.

NEX Optimisation appointed Paul Busby as Global Head of Sales for ENSO. Prior to his role with HSBC, Paul Busby was the Co-head of Equity Finance Americas and Head of Securities Lending Americas at Deutsche Bank.

Vanguard CEO Bill McNabb announced he will step down. Investment chief Tim Buckley will take over the role in January.

SenaHill Partners announced the appointment of Todd Ruppert to help drive global expansion. Ruppert will help steer the firm’s international advisory initiatives and growth strategy to capitalize on global opportunities throughout the FinTech ecosystem. He coms from T. Rowe Price, where he retired from in 2012. During his tenure at the firm, he served as CEO and president of T. Rowe Price Global Investment Services, co-president, T. Rowe Price International, and a member of the operating steering committee of the T. Rowe Price Group. He is the founder and CEO of Ruppert International, a firm with diversified interests globally in various fields including financial services, disruptive technologies, education and strategy consulting. Ruppert serves as a venture partner at Greenspring Associates, a US-based venture capital firm with over $5.0 billion under management.

Axioma appointed Thomas Severance to the newly created position of Senior Managing Director and Chief Revenue Officer. Severance was previously at IHS Markit for six years, where he most recently served as Managing Director, Markit Analytics, heading its risk strategy and analytics business in the Americas. At IHS Markit, he led the Americas operations of Markit Analytics, which provides a range of enterprise risk management software and solutions. Earlier in his career, Severance was Regional Director, Latin America for Misys, a provider of financial services software and solutions for retail and corporate banking, lending, treasury, capital markets, investment management and enterprise risk. Before that he served as Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing at information and analytics provider, Armanta, Inc., and as Executive Vice President and Head of Global Sales for Quic Financial Technologies, a developer of simulation, risk calculation, and pricing platform solutions. Severance was also MD of North America at Algorithmics, a provider of risk management software that was acquired by IBM in 2011.

UnaVista, the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) hosted platform business for regulatory reporting, reference data and analytics, appointed Samuel Hyman as Senior Sales Director and Marquis Green as Marketing Manager. Hyman and Green will be based at the LSEG US corporate office in New York, where UnaVista first established its North American sales team in 2013.  Hyman brings to UnaVista nearly two decades of experience in financial markets working for firms such as ICE Data Services, Bloomberg and, most recently, (ICAP) NEX-TriOptima LLC, where he was the lead in establishing the FX business and expanding the firm’s footprint in North America. Likewise, Marquis Green has solid industry experience having spent 10 years at S&P Global primarily focused on strategic product marketing initiatives.
