TRADING UP: Mulieri Rejoins ITG; Citadel Adds SEC Alum Gregg Berman

Agency broker BTIG expanded its institutional equity sales and trading group by hiring sales trader Domingo Alonso as managing director based in Atlanta. Alonso has nearly 40 years of experience in the industry. Prior to BTIG, he spent over a decade as a managing director of institutional equities at FBR Capital Markets. Previously, he acted in a similar role at Cowen and Company for 25 years.

ITG landed Pete Mulieri as a director on the U.S. sales team. He started work on September 12 and is based in the firm’s Boston office. In his second stint at ITG, Mulieri, a veteran with 25 years of service in the capital markets, spent 20 years at ITG in client service, execution consulting and analytics roles. He has also held sales roles at SunGard and most recently FlexTrade.

Noble Financial Capital Markets, a broker-dealer focused on small-cap emerging growth companies in the healthcare, technology, media and natural resources sectors hired Suzanne Antolini in its Boca Raton, Florida office as vice president of institutional sales trading. Antolini, a 25-year professional, is charged with building existing and new relationships with investment managers, hedge funds and other institutional investors. Prior to Noble, she spent two years at Brean Capital and two years at GFI Group.

Former U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission pro Gregg Berman is joining Citadel. According to his LinkedIn profile, He joins the speedy trading firm as a director of research, a role in which he will focus on market structure as well as the stability and quality of markets. He left the SEC’s Division of Trading and Markets in 2015 to join consulting firm EY, where he worked with clients on Volcker Rule compliance and other matters.

OCC, the world’s largest equity derivatives clearing organization, announced that Craig Donohue has agreed to stay on as executive chairman and chief executive officer for three additional years after his term expires in December. Donohue also announced the creation of an Office of the Executive Chairman and CEO and enhancements to OCC’s leadership structure. To that end, Michael McClain was named chief operating officer and Scot Warren was promoted to a new role as chief administrative officer.

Donohue announced several other key promotions and appointments:

John Fennell, formerly executive vice president, Financial Risk Management, has been promoted to executive vice president and Chief Risk Officer, where he will be responsible for implementing OCC’s risk management strategy. Fennell also will oversee OCC’s model validation and enterprise risk management departments, along with security services, business continuity and disaster recovery, and vendor risk management areas. He replaces John Grace, who left OCC.

Dale Michaels replaces Fennell as executive vice president, Financial Risk Management. He will be responsible for OCC’s market, credit and liquidity risk, default management, customer margin methodologies and model development activities. Michaels joined OCC in January to work on the company’s securities lending initiatives after a long career in risk management at CME Group where he led the integration of the risk management and clearing functions involving CME Group, The Chicago Board of Trade, the New York Mercantile Exchange and COMEX, creating significant capital and operational savings for market participants. Michaels brings 29 years of industry experience to his new role at OCC.

Adi Agrawal has been promoted to senior vice president and chief audit executive, where he will be responsible for strengthening and managing OCC’s internal controls processes. Agrawal formerly was first vice president, Internal Audit, and is an internationally recognized and experienced global assurance and risk executive with more than 25 years of experience leading information technology, process reengineering, risk and strategy. He replaces Jim Knoeck, who left OCC earlier this year.

Chip Dempsey joined OCC in a new role of senior vice president and chief commercial officer, and will lead OCC’s efforts in strategy, planning, and business and product development. He is an innovative business development strategist with 28 years of industry experience and an extensive global network of business leaders in the market structure and financial technology communities. Dempsey joins OCC from Morgan Stanley, where as executive director of Principal Strategic Investments, he co-led investments in market structure and fintech companies, and formulated investment theses regarding such areas as distributed ledgers, artificial intelligence and emerging markets. His previous clearinghouse experience includes the re-engineering of the Board of Trade Clearing Corporation after the departure of the Chicago Board of Trade.

Cürex Group, a New York City-based institutional foreign exchange execution services and data analytics company, announced that Andy Corcoran has been named managing director of business development. A 20 years FX markets veteran, Corcoran has been involved throughout his career in all aspects of FX trading and client support on the sell side. Prior to joining Cürex, he worked for 17 years at UBS where he most recently served as executive director of FX eSales for the Americas. Corcoran began his career at Merrill Lynch.

TMX Market Insights announced that it has named John Willock as director, TMX Datalinx, effective September 26. Reporting directly to Eric Sinclair, president, TMX Market Insights and group head of information services, TMX Group, Willock will be responsible for managing the suite of TMX Datalinx real-time products and services, including all equities, derivatives and TMX Information Processor feeds. Most recently, Willock served as managing director, Global Data Sales, Nasdaq, where his role included integration, strategy and sales for the data business of Nasdaq’s Chi-X Canada acquisition.
