The purchase, which extends S&P Global Platts’ energy analytical capabilities by enhancing its oil offering and strengthening its position in the natural gas and power markets, received necessary regulatory approvals and closed September 15, 2016. Financial terms were not disclosed.   S&P Global Platts announced its plans to acquire PIRA Energy Group on August 4, 2016.   Founded in 1976, New York-based [PIRA](http://www.pira.com/) provides over 500 energy and commodity customers in 60 countries with a broad range of energy research and forecasting products and services.
