Though there isn’t necessarily bad blood between the Europeans and Americans, the biennial Ryder Cup is by far the most spirited tournament, as evident by the more passionate exclamations and fist pumps amongst the team members compared to individual play (cue Graeme McDowell pouring champagne over Rory McIlroy’s head). Held at Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire, Scotland, the centralized location in Perth County provides a breathtaking backdrop of a rich variety of landscapes and other activities to keep you busy before or after the first tee time. If you’re making the trip – or already there -- here are a few things you have to do and see if the 19th hole just isn’t cutting it. But then again, when does that ever happen? **Loch Tay** ![Loch Tay](https://articles.marketsmedia.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/Loch_Tay-1.jpg?width=700&height=467&name=Loch_Tay-1.jpg) Photo Via Flickr/Gordypordy Located about an hour away from the Gleneagles Hotel lies the largest loch in Perthshire and one of the deepest in Scotland, Loch Tay. The loch is a popular spot for water sports enthusiasts and has areas for sunbathing and picnic tables around the 15-mile long stretch of water. **Whiskey Distilleries** ![ Famous Grouse Barrels Famous Grouse barrels outside the Glenturret distillery in Scotland.](https://articles.marketsmedia.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/Glenturret_distillery-3.jpg?width=700&height=636&name=Glenturret_distillery-3.jpg) Grouse barrels outside the Glenturret distillery in Scotland. There is an array to choose from, such as the oldest distillery in Scotland, Glenturret, and the smallest, Edradour. From the classics to the originals, each distillery has its own unique personality suitable for any whiskey enthusiast. **Spa Treatments** Looking to relax after that long flight from the States? There are quite a few spas throughout Perthshire within driving distance of Gleneagles Hotel. - Knock Castle Hotel and Spa–20 minutes away - Hilton Dunkeld House–40 minutes away - The Bannatyne Spa–25 minutes away - On location at Gleneagles Hotel! **Queen Elizabeth Forest Park** ![Mirror Sculpture Queen Elizabeth Forest Park](https://articles.marketsmedia.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/mirror_statue-1.jpg?width=700&height=527&name=mirror_statue-1.jpg) Photo via Flickr/ Janet Stone Though you don’t have to look far for some greenery, visiting Queen Elizabeth Forest Park is a wonderful opportunity to go on a hike, cycle or just soak up the breathtaking views. You can explore legendary Loch Katrine, look out for wildlife sculptures in Loch Ard, or tackle strenuous, long-distance trails of West Highland Way, Ben Venue summit, and more.
