In conjunction with the Willamette Valley’s 50th anniversary of their first Pinot noir planting, 50 of the region’s top-shelf wineries will visit New York for a wine tasting event like no other. Called Pinot in the City, the event on April 14 at the City Winery will shine a spotlight on Oregon wine country’s best export to the world. White wines of the Pinot gris, Riesling, and Chardonnay varieties will be represented too.

The city is the latest stop on the road show events organized by the Willamette Valley Wineries Assocation (WVWA). Meet owners who took the risk of turning the Valley into a Pinot powerhouse, despite its unique climate. The expanding cast of artisanal vintners who have emerged from this region, including up-and-coming ones like Mouton Noir Wines, will be present at the event to pour you their finest selections and discuss their latest harvest or a new variety they’ve planted.

“Willamette Valley wine is at an interesting intersection of rich tradition and newfound momentum right now,” says Sue Horstmann, Executive Director of the WVWA. “Delivering a taste of this old and new in our award-winning wines to New Yorkers firsthand is tremendously exciting.”

Food will be served on small plates to complement the tastings.

April 14, 2015. 6-9pm. City Winery 155 Varick Street, New York. $75.  Tickets here.
